Munduk Adventure at Munduk Cabins

Four nights

Munduk Adventure

Four nights, and enough time to stop counting them — waterfalls, a monastery, a cooking class and a morning on Lake Tamblingan.

Four nights is the unhurried version: everything the shorter stays cover, plus a morning on Lake Tamblingan and time to do nothing at all.

Day 1 — Arrival and mountain serenity

Afternoon arrival and check-in. Arrive in Munduk and settle in, with the panorama of jungle valley and distant sea to look at while you do.

On-site. The infinity pool, the hot tub, and air that is markedly cooler and quieter than the south of the island.

Evening at the fire pit. Dinner at Ulekan, then marshmallows at the fire pit.

Day 2 — Waterfalls and the long way round

The Munduk four waterfalls trek. A four to five hour walk linking four cascades through rainforest and spice plantations. It covers between 3 and 5 kilometres over mixed ground — steep concrete stairs, jungle path and bamboo bridges.

  • Golden Valley Falls
  • Red Coral Falls
  • Labuhan Kebo Falls
  • Melanting Falls

Lunch with a view. The Botanist, a restaurant built on the same sustainability thinking as the cabins.

Afternoon. The hot tub, with a happy hour cocktail between five and seven; an in-cabin massage with a Munduk therapist; and afternoon tea, which is complimentary and served daily from three until five.

Evening. Dinner at Ulekan, then the fire pit.

Day 3 — Monastery, hot springs and a cooking class

Morning: monastery and hot springs. North towards the coast to Brahmavihara Arama, the largest Buddhist monastery in Bali, and then into the warm sulphurous water of the Banjar hot springs.

Lunch: a jungle cooking class. Made and Ketut host a small, personal class in the jungle, focused on mountain-style Balinese cooking rather than the commercial version of the same thing. It can be held in your cabin instead if you are staying in one of the Premium Suite Cabins.

Evening. Dinner at Ulekan, then the fire pit.

Day 4 — Lake Tamblingan and local life

Morning: Lake Tamblingan and a blessing ceremony. The quietest of the lakes and the least visited — a morning that combines a walk, a blessing and a crossing by traditional boat.

Lunch in Bedugul. Asian Spice, or Hiland 1280.

Afternoon: the market. Pancasari market for spices and fruit and a look at an ordinary Balinese morning, or the Bali Botanical Garden.

A last evening. Sunset from your own terrace or the main viewing deck, and dinner to finish.

Day 5 — Departure

A slow morning. Breakfast and the view, one last time.

Departure. Check out. Depending on your route and your departure time, the Handara Gate is a short detour and photographs well.

Arranging it

We book it, you turn up

None of this needs organising in advance. Tell the team what appeals when you arrive — or before, if you would rather have it settled — and the trek, the driver, the massage and the cooking class are arranged for you.

The concierge is on call around the clock, and airport pick-up can be arranged with the booking.

Staying longer, or shorter?

Short on time? Two nights still covers the waterfall trek and both evenings at the fire pit.
